UK-based online betting exchange and gaming firm Betfair has concluded a
sponsorship deal with the World Backgammon Association (WBA), that will see it
become the new official sponsor of the prestigious 2012 European Backgammon
Tour.
In fact, the sponsorship deal between Betfair and the WBA
couldn’t have been better timed, considering the 2012 European Backgammon Tour
kicks off on April 25 with the European Pro Championships in Lefkosa, Cyprus.
This epic backgammon event will be preceded by the European Doubles
Championships.
Betfair Running 2012 European Pro Championships Satellites
Betfair, in anticipation of the 2012 European Pro Championships, is running a
host of backgammon satellite tournaments, where players can win themselves an
automatic entry into this highly respected international backgammon tournament
via Betfair’s newly launched backgammon facility.
Read a statement from Betfair: ‘For those who fancy something completely
different this year, Betfair’s recently announced sponsorship of the 2012
European Backgammon Tour gives them the chance to test their skills in the
world’s oldest board game.’
Betfair is aiming to encourage avid poker players to become interested in
playing competitive backgammon, because what both games have in common is that
even though luck plays a small role, ultimately a player’s level of skill
dictates the outcome of each game or round.
‘With today’s poker games getting increasingly tough, many players are now
looking for a new angle in an effort to boost their online winnings including
games like backgammon that require a similar skill set,’ continued the Betfair
backgammon statement.
Poker Heads-up Specialists Well-Suited for
Backgammon
‘[Poker] heads-up specialists are particularly well suited to backgammon, which
is always played between two players, while the game also rewards aggressive
play and a solid understanding of odds.’
After Cyprus, the 2012 European Backgammon Tour moves on to Munich in Germany,
for the 2012 German Backgammon Masters tournament from July 26 to 29. Betfair
has confirmed that it will also run daily backgammon satellites closer to the
time for seats in that prestigious tournament.
