Betfair, arguably the world’s most successful online betting exchange, has
scored a bullseye by signing a deal with the Professional Darts Corporation
(PDC) to become its main sponsor for its upcoming World Matchplay tournament.

Said Betfair International Director, Matt Robinson, ‘We’re excited to sponsor
the World Matchplay at a time when darts continues to grow in popularity as a
sport. It’s become one of the most watched events on television and we look
forward to providing fans with all the excitement only the Betfair World
Matchplay
can deliver.’

Set to be broadcast live from Blackpool on UK satellite network Sky Sports from
Saturday, July 21 to Sunday, July 29, the 2012 World Matchplay tournament boasts
a prize pool of £400,000, and will attract the best darts players from Britain
and beyond.

Top Players Expected at Betfair World Matchplay

The event will be held at Winter Gardens in the English seaside town of
Blackpool, where under the Betfair banner, 32 professionals and ProTour Order of
Merit qualifiers will compete for the highest honour in darts.

Said PDC Chairman, Barry Hearn, ‘We’re delighted to welcome Betfair as the title
sponsors of the World Matchplay. It’s a brand known worldwide and we’re excited
about its association with one of the biggest tournaments in darts.

‘I firmly believe that the 2012 Betfair World Matchplay tournament will be the
best yet in the tournament’s history with record sales of tickets accompanied by
a fantastic line-up of players,’ he said.

Hearn went on to say that he believes the standard of players on the PDC circuit
is constantly improving, which is great news for darts fans who have come to
expect nail-biting matchups in this prestigious annual event.

‘After seeing
nine-dart finishes in Blackpool in each of the last two years, I’m sure we’ll be
in for yet another thrilling tournament this year,’ said Hearn.

Phil ‘The Power’ Taylor Heads Up Field

Heading up the lineup of this year’s World Matchplay tournament will be Phil
‘The Power’ Taylor, who’ll be focused on winning his fifth consecutive title,
and 13th event at Winter Gardens in a bid to equal his own incredible winning
streak he set from 2000 to 2004.

Other notable players will include previous
World Matchplay champs Colin Lloyd and James Wade, current darts World Champion,
Adrian Lewis, and former finalists from Blackpool, Terry Jenkins and Raymond Van
Barneveld.
