|   | | With the recent humanitarian crisis in Asia worldwide charity and
donations have been pouring in. The online casinos have been no acceptation to
the overwhelming generosity on the parts of businesses and organization from
around the world. One online casino that has a reputation for pulling humorous
publicity stunts recently purchased a website set up specifically to aid victims
of the tsunami. But the story of how Golden Palace online casino purchased this
website starts in Montreal, Canada with a young student dubbed the ?wave rat?
for initially trying to profit off the disaster.
Canadian student Josh
Kaplan, 20, recently sold the domain name for the website www.tsunamirelief.com
for $10,000 to the online casino Golden Palace. At first, he originally posted
the domain on eBay to auction off and was asking for $50,000. Some saw this as
an act of greed by trying to capitalize off of the tsunami disaster in Asia.
This earned him the title ?wave rat? but whatever his original intentions were,
he has since donated all the proceeds he made by selling the domain name to
charity. Kaplan's mother Linda told Reuters last week her son had always
intended to donate the money from the online auction to charity and had not
tried to profit from the tragedy, which has claimed as many as 150,000 victims.
A spokesman for the online casino also said that he believed Kaplan had
the best intentions from the start. "We spoke with him and we wanted to verify
his story. We believed him to be quite sincere about not trying to profit from
the sale of the web site," said spokesman Drew Black. "He was helping to raise
as much as he could for those in need." The online casino Golden Palace toned
down their usually flair for wacky pranks and paid out the $10,000 for the
tsunami relief website in order to help victims of the disaster.
Many
online casinos have been pitching in to help in one way or another along with
other private businesses and donors. When it comes to charity, the online casino
industry is doing their part along with everyone else in such a time of
humanitarian crisis. There have been other such examples like Next Generation
Entertainment online casino Group who decided to donate 100% of all profits
generated on January 5th, coming in from all their online casinos, to the
International Red Cross. The decision to put people ahead of profits is
something businesses must consider when a massive disaster occurs.
This
non-profit website has been purchased by Golden Palace online casino for
$10,000. The entire amount of the sale will go to benefit the victims of the
Tsunami disaster. Show your support by making a contribution to a charity listed
on the site. The links go directly to the charity displayed so you can be sure
that your contribution goes only to those in need. Tsunamirelief.com now lists
13 charities, including the American Red Cross, CARE USA and Save the Children,
with direct links to their web sites to make donations.
