While many countries have their own version of Idols, the popular TV singing talent show, American Idol is undoubtedly one of the most popular which is why it's broadcast all over the globe. As such, it has become a betting phenomenon as fans wager on their top Idol on their favorite online betting sites.

What makes this year's American Idol so exciting, is that it attracted one of the most talented groups of budding singers the popular competition has ever seen. And after certain broadcasts, over 40 millions Idol fans have cast their votes to keep their favorites in the running. Now with just two remaining, the game is on.

It has all come down to baby-faced crooner Kris Allen and cool punkish screecher Adam Lambert, both of whom have earned their places in the final. As tens of millions of Americans cast their votes in the upcoming showdown, so will hundreds of thousands of betting fans allow their money do their voting for them.

Today (Wednesday May 20) will be an especially important betting day, as Idol fans from Portsmouth to Pretoria will likely not get another chance to back the early longshot Kris, or the longtime favorite Adam before the overall winner is announced. Online betting websites have reportedly geared up for high Idol traffic.

Said one online betting insider, 'Each year an increasing number of American Idol fans are choosing to wager on their favorites because online betting sites have made it so quick and easy to do so. This year the betting has been off the charts as both Idol finalists have millions of supporters, and it could go either way.'

The finale of American Idol will be broadcast live in the United States tonight, where the lucky winner will be announced. After last night's broadcast, Idol fans were given their last chance to vote for their favorite before tonight's results show. With millions of pounds riding on the result, online betting fans will also be tuned in.

For our money, the unique voice of Adam Lambert, along with his brassy stage persona should clinch him victory and the priceless recording opportunities that comes with it. However, the softer, more R&B sound of Kris Allen, so popular with American teenage girls these days, will probably tip the (musical) scales..
