Online gambling is not unlike Formula 1 racing. Like online casinos, F1 the cars may look the same and perform the same, but each is different. However, some cars are powered by engines supplied by a single manufacturer, not unlike online casinos that are powered by a single software developer.

And one of the world's largest and most respected online gambling software vendors is Isle of Man-based Playtech, a firm whose software powers many of the most popular online gambling sites on the internet today. Enter Betfair, one of the biggest UK-based online betting operations, for a symbiotic triumph.

This week Playtech announced that it has signed an agreement with Betfair to power the online betting exchange's downloadable online casino games. This new downloadable Betfair casino will give casino fans at Betfair a new and exciting option over and above the sportbook's existing instant play (Flash) casino.

Said CEO of Playtech, Mor Weizer, 'We welcome Betfair to our licensee network and are very excited to be working with such a like-minded business which has revolutionized the gaming industry. This partnership exemplifies our strategy of rapidly expanding our licensee base with tier one operators across all markets.'

As a result of the announcement, Playtech Limited's shares jumped by over 10.6 percent on Tuesday on the London Stock Exchange, as news spread about the new agreement between two of the most successful online gambling firms in operation today. The agreement also involves a Playtech online bingo platform.

Said MD of Betfair, Niall Wass, 'We chose Playtech because, like us, it is the market leader in its industry, producing software which is at the cutting edge of gaming technology. We look forward to working with their development team to provide exciting and innovative new gaming experiences for our customers.'
