As one of the world's first and foremost online gambling software developers, for years Microgaming has been providing its safe, reliable and state-of-the-art online gambling software to a multitude of top online casinos, but the multi-million dollar Isle of Man-based firm has chosen to steer clear of the U.S.

Microgaming used to allow its licensees to accept U.S.-based online gambling fans, but the seizure in September last year of a string of foreign-owned online gambling domains by a Kentucky court proved to be the 'straw that broke the camel's back' for the online gambling concern, and it quickly pulled out of the country.

The thinking of Microgaming executives is that they did not want to jeopardize the company's global standing by becoming yet another high-profile target of the online gambling 'witch hunt' being perpetrated by the U.S. Justice Department. As such, it sent a directive to its licensees to stop accepting U.S.-based players.

However, while most of its licensees saw the logic in this decision, one of Microgaming's biggest and longest-standing licensees, Intertops Casino, decided that the American market was too lucrative to ignore. As such, the casino announced that it would continue to target Americans, prompting Microgaming to split with it.

This meant that Intertops was forced to find a new online gambling software provider, which it did in the form of another large gaming software firm, Real Time Gaming, who is only to happy to accept players from the United States. At the same time, Intertops launched a solely American site, Intertops RED Casino.

While Microgaming was not happy at having to cut lose one of its oldest licensees, the firm's strategy is to stay clear of America until the country has resolved its current online gambling ban. On that score, there is hope that under the Obama administration, online gambling may soon be legalized and regulated in the U.S.

Currently Microgaming powers a range of top-rated online casinos that accept players from all over the world. Some of its more popular licensees include 32Red Casino, 7 Sultans Casino, Casino Action, Casino Villento, Desert Dollar Casino, FortuneRoom Casino, Platinum Play Casino and Royal Vegas Casino.
