According to recent reports, online gambling software giant Microgaming will shortly switch over from the US dollar to the European Euro as the chosen currency of its popular Microgaming Poker Network, in order to make the network more user-friendly for players, and allow 'double buy-ins'.

Since the inception of online gambling many years ago, the dollar has always been the most popular currency for players around the world. But now it seems that as the largest online gambling firms increasingly target European countries (as a result of the US online gambling ban), the Euro is becoming more popular.

As such, in the near future all Microgaming Poker Network guaranteed tournaments, including multi-table tournaments, satellites and even freerolls, will boast the Euro as the default currency. And provided players can still access and play their favourite online poker tournaments, the changeover should not be an issue.

In addition, Microgaming has also announced that it will launch a series of exciting and lucrative online poker tournaments called Survivor Tournaments. The core difference between these and regular tournaments is that as the tournament moves to the next level, players with the smallest chip stacks are eliminated.

This means that players in Survivor Tournaments must be more aggressive in their play and not rely on 'slipping through the cracks'. Also, due to the nature of the tournaments, players must be more aware of external factors such as their position in the tournament, when the next level starts and how many players are left.

Said Microgaming Poker Network spokesperson, Mark Pinan, 'The Microgaming Poker Network is proud of this new and unique tournament offering which is designed to provide the most entertaining network poker competitions available. We predict that July is going to be a big month for tournament poker.'

In conjunction with its new Survivor Tournaments, Microgaming is also expected to release Breakfast and Bedtime Bounty tournaments. The key feature of these tournaments is that every player is assigned a personal bounty, which they are awarded for every hand they win, making the tournament very lucrative.
