2009 EGR Award Winners Announced in London

Every year eGaming Review hosts its EGR Awards which celebrates excellence, innovation and achievement in the ever-growing online gambling industry, and this year's awards were no different which were hosted this week at Old Billingsgate Market in London, England.

The glittering affair was hosted on the first night of eGaming Review's two-day conference and exhibition for online gambling operators. It boasted 900 guests, most of whom comprised the who's who of the global online gambling industry, and who were all eager to see the winners revealed.

Traditionally, the EGR Awards are awarded across various categories, with the top and most prestigious category being Operator of the Year. And this year as the room fell silent, that enormous honour was bestowed on Austrian gaming and betting firm, Bwin, a world leading gambling operator.

Said Bwin UK country manager, Nic Wenn, 'It's absolutely fantastic that Bwin has won this award after ten years. I think Bwin have carried on doing what Bwin have been doing, leading the way in opening new territories in Europe and leading the technological advances across the industry.'

In addition, Bwin topped eGaming Review's Power 50 leading operators for the second year running. Judges of the EGR Awards praised Bwin for its consistency, leadership, scale, strength of the brand, for promoting responsible gaming, and for showing continued and consistent leadership.

Another notable award recipient was leading online betting exchange Betfair, which won the coveted UK Sports Betting Operator of the Year. It received the honour 'for having changed the face of betting over the past decade' in addition to recording huge growth over the past two years.
