The great thing about the online sports books is that they accept wagers on just about anything, and for leading Irish online betting site, Paddy Power, cheating English Premier League footballer, John Terry, has become the latest betting sensation as the sordid details of his affair continues to come to light.

Last week the English media learned that Terry, a husbands and father of two and captain of Chelsea and the England national football team, had a steamy affair with Vanessa Perroncel, the former girlfriend of his England team-mate and close friend Wayne Bridge. And the timing couldn't be much worse for Terry.

Just months before he is supposed to lead the England quad in South Africa in the 2010 World Cup, this scandal could threaten his captaincy. But to make matters worse, according to a recent poll taken in England, 51 per cent of men think he should resign as England captain compared with 41 per cent of women.

Terry's wife, 28-year-old Toni Poole, who is reportedly devastated and humiliated by revelations of the affair, took the couple's children with her to Dubai on Saturday night to escape the English media frenzy, a frenzy many are saying could severely damage the moral of the England squad ahead of the World Cup.

Even Britain's sports minister Gerry Sutcliffe has disapproved of Terry's indiscretions and has questioned his ability to lead the team in South Africa. 'On the field, John Terry is a fantastic player and a good England captain. But to be the captain of England, you've got to have wider responsibilities for the country.'

But controversy aside, Paddy Power has recognized the opportunity for punters to get in on the 'John Terry betting action', which is why the online betting site has introduced a range of bets surrounding the talented footballer and his wildly inappropriate if not highly amusing WAG (wives and girlfriend) debacle.

- Five - 7/2
