Senior staff of leading UK land and online gambling operation
William Hill have flown to Israel in attempt to initiate damage
control after a mass walkout last Sunday by staff at the firm’s
online marketing and customer service office in Tel Aviv.

The Tel Aviv walkout by 180 staff members was reportedly the result
of rumours that William Hill was considering relocating its online
marketing and customer services from Israel to Gibraltar or the UK,
a rumour the company has subsequently denied.

Heading up the team dispatched to Israel to deal with the situation
is Henry Birch, the chief executive of William Hill Online (WHO),
which has already reportedly taken disciplinary action against a
number of senior Tel Aviv managers.

As part of the walkout, Eyal Sanoff, chief marketing officer of WHO
in Tel Aviv, has resigned.

WHO is a joint venture between William Hill and leading online
gambling software vendor, Playtech, which is responsible for the
rejuvenation of William Hill’s online gambling business, after its
in-house online gaming software experienced problems.

William Hill Management Working Through Issues

A recent statement from William Hill to the London Stock Exchange
(LSE) read: ‘Senior William Hill Online management are currently on
the ground in Tel Aviv working through these issues, although it
should be noted that the office in Tel Aviv will be closed from
tomorrow through to early next week, as normal, through the Jewish
holiday period.’

It went on to say that ‘The vast majority of employees of the
marketing team in Tel Aviv have good working relationships with the
business and with colleagues across William Hill Online.’

William Hill said that the Tel Aviv walkout and disruption would not
directly affect any of its public-facing websites, which are hosted
and operated from Gibraltar. However, according to one report, Tel
Aviv’s customer services operations are still not back up to full
capacity.

And William Hill’s staff woes are not limited to Israel, as the
gambling group confirmed that it has also taken disciplinary action
against senior William Hill Online managers in Manila and Sofia.

News of William Hill’s Tel Aviv staff walkout caused the firm’s
share price on the LSE to drop by 5 percent to 228.8p.
