Betfair, the world’s biggest online sports betting exchange, has pulled off
something of a coup by signing a sponsorship deal with Matchroom Sport, a top UK
sports promotions company, to become the new sponsor of the popular Prizefighter

The brainchild of founder and chairman of Matchroom Sport Barry Hearn, the
Prizefighter series is a highly watched knock out boxing tournament broadcast on
UK satellite pay-TV channel Sky Sports.

The format of the Prizefighter series sees eight fighters on a given night take
part in four quarter-final bouts of three 3 minute rounds each. The winners of
each quarter-final progress on to the semi-finals, and then the winners of each
semi-final face off in the final bout, where the winner gets to take home a
cheque for £32,000.

Viewers Can Watch Seven Boxing Matches on One Night

The Prizefighter series format, where viewers get to watch seven boxing matches
on a single night, has caught on in a big way with Sky Sports viewers, which is
why it is not surprising that an online betting giant like Betfair jumped at the
opportunity to sponsor the hard-hitting series.

As such, the next Prizefighter series – for Light-Welterweights II – scheduled
for Saturday, February 11 at the Wolverhampton Civic Hall, will be the first
time that the Betfair brand is associated with the boxing series, which will be
broadcast live on Sky Sports 1, HD1 as well as in 3D.

Said Betfair Head of UK Brand Marketing, Andy Lulham, ‘We are thrilled to enter
into partnership with Prizefighter, a format which has breathed new life into
boxing. The competition continues to grow in popularity and stature among our
customer base.’

Betfair’s sponsorship of the Prizefighter series is particularly
serendipitous, because the Light-Welterweights II fights scheduled for Saturday
will feature some of the best light-welterweights in Britain, including current
title-holder Adil Anwar, the as yet undefeated Dale Miles and Tyrone Nurse, not
too mention former British champion Barry Morrison, as well as charged up
challengers Mark Lloyd, John Watson, Dean Harrison and Young Mutley.

Betfair New Sponsor of Innovative Prizefighter Series

Said Matchroom Sport MD, Eddie Hearn, ‘I’m delighted to welcome [Betfair] the
world’s leading betting exchange as title sponsorship of the innovative
Prizefighter Series.

‘The series has attracted a new audience for boxing and
our growing list of international broadcasters confirms the huge growth of this
concept. They always attracts high volumes of activity within the betting
markets and I’m sure punters will get great value with Betfair,’ he said.
