On Wednesday this week (April 18), leading UK online betting exchange Betfair
will launch a new App Cloud
service for gaming developers to build their own
betting websites and widgets using the firm’s existing sports exchange platform.

From tomorrow, developers will have the ability to add Betfair’s Application
Programming Interface (API) onto their own betting websites, which is
specifically designed to offer their customers a range of Betfair’s betting
products and services.

The API will deliver real time live data to the developers’ sites directly
from the Betfair Exchange, and the first site expected to make use of Betfair’s
new App Cloud service is top-rated English Premier League football club,
Manchester United.

Manchester Utd Site First to Utilise App Cloud

Visitors to the official Manchester United website will be able to register,
login and wager using the club’s tailor-made on-site betting service
incorporating Betfair’s new App Cloud.

Said Betfair App Cloud director, Carel Vosloo, ‘Our App Cloud will further
enhance the dynamism and productivity of Betfair’s developer community and in
turn make more Betfair products accessible to more customers. Having a vibrant
developer community enables Betfair to outsource ingenuity and facilitate
further innovation in its product range.’

According to the premier online betting exchange, non-Betfair owned and built
interfaces operating off its API contributes roughly approximately 20 per cent
of its sports exchange revenues, a figure Betfair is banking on increasing as
more and more developers opt to use the user-friendly App Cloud service to
bolster their own offerings and services.

Currently Betfair boasts almost 70,000 customers that wager on its Betting
Exchange through third-party online betting applications, with nearly 50 million
bets and 10 billion data requests being processed via these applications every

Betfair Devised a Developer Revenue Sharing Deal

Because most software developers that use Betfair’s Betting Exchange
applications charge their customers a subscription fee, Betfair has devised a
revenue sharing deal that will see developers being compensated on new customer

Continued Vosloo: ‘We’re the only ones in our industry to offer this service as
only Betfair customers would pay for third-party applications. This is because
only on Betfair, do customers have a chance of being winners in the long term.’

More App Cloud based Betfair products are already in the process of being
developed, such as a user-friendly betting widget that is scheduled to go live
in the near future on the popular betting odds comparison website, OddsChecker.
