An ancient Chinese dice game that has made the transition to online casinos

You would be forgiven for comparing the casino game of Sic Bo to a
cross between craps and roulette. Thought to have originated in ancient China –
which means it could be thousands of years old – Sic Bo literally translates to
‘dice pair’. Ironically, however, in Sic Bo three standard six-sided dice are
used. And although a Sic Bo table can appear confusing at first, once you
understand the Sic Bo rules, everything will become as clear as day.

The premise of Sic Bo is very simple. You can bet on certain dice combinations
and if those combinations are thrown, you win and are paid out accordingly. If
those combinations are not thrown, you lose. After each throw of the dice, a new
round of betting begins and the dice are once again thrown. To begin each round
of online Sic Bo, simply drag your intended bet onto the dice combination you
want to bet on.

It is important to note, however, that most bets in Sic Bo are capped, meaning
you can only bet up to a maximum pre-specified amount on each type of bet. Also,
most online Sic Bo games have a total betting limit, which you can not exceed
before each throw of the dice. Once you have placed all of your bets, you click
‘Roll’ and the three dice are thrown. If the dice correspond to any of your
bets, you’ll be paid out accordingly. If you like the bets you placed, you can
play them again by clicking the ‘Rebet’ button.

Here is a summary of the different types of bets you can wager on in Sic Bo:

Big/Small Bet – With this bet you are wagering on whether the three dice
will add up to ‘big’ or ‘small’ numbers. A Big bets wins if the value of the
dice adds up to 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16 or 17. Small bets win if the dice add up
to 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 or 10. If a triple is thrown, both bets lose. Big/Small bets
pay 1:1.

Number Bet – This is a bet where you wager on a specific number, i.e. 1,
2, 3, 4, 5 or 6. If your chosen number comes up once, you’ll be paid 1:1; twice
2:1 and three times 3:1.

Pair Bet – As its name suggests, with this bet you can wager on 1 or all
of these 15 pairs: (1 and 2), (1 and 3), (1 and 4), (1 and 5), (1 and 6), (2 and
3), (2 and 4), (2 and 5), (2 and 6), (3 and 4), (3 and 5), (3 and 6), (4 and 5),
(4 and 6) and (5 and 6). For every pair of numbers that comes up, you’ll be paid

Total Bet – If you are a fan of addition, then this is the bet for you.
There are 14 of these bets, each with a different total and some with a
different pay out. For instance, a total of 4 pays 60:1, 5 pays 30:1, 6 pays
17:1, 7 pays 12:1, 8 pays 8:1, 9 pays 6:1; 10 pays 6:1, 11 pays 6:1, 2 pays 6:1,
13 pays 8:1 and 14 pays 12:1.

Double Bet – With this bet you can wager on one or more pairs of 1s, 2s,
3s, 4s, 5s or 6s. Double bets pay 10:1.

Triple Bet – Same as a Double bet, only you can wager on one or more
triples of 1s, 2s, 3s, 4s, 5s or 6s. Triple bets pay 180:1.

Any Triple Bet – You win if all three dice show the same number, or in
other words show any three of a kind. Any Triple bets pay 30:1.

In terms of Sic Bo strategy, your best bet is to stick with the bets that offer
you the smallest edge – around 2.78 percent – which happen to be Big/Small bets.
If you want to win more, then feel free to experiment by playing a number of
different bets together. Just don’t lose sight of your stack and only bet each
round what you can afford.
